IBU Goes Green – Waste Selection Initiative

At International Balkan University, we believe that every sustainable change begins with a simple action.
This week, under the IBU Goes Greener initiative, in cooperation with the packaging and packaging waste management company PAKOMAK, we proudly launch our new waste selection system, designed to help every member of our community take part in protecting our environment and reducing our ecological footprint. Across our campus, clearly marked bins for paper and for plastic bottles and cans are distributed.
These bins represent much more than just containers. They symbolize a new chapter in our university’s commitment to sustainability, responsibility, and environmental care.
Through this initiative, we aim to build a culture where each of us — students, staff, and visitors — becomes aware of the impact our daily choices have on the environment.
The bins are intentionally placed in visible and frequently used locations across campus to make recycling simple, intuitive, and accessible.

Why Waste Separation Is Important?

Correct waste selection provides many environmental benefits:
•  Enables recycling and reuse of materials
•  Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills
•  Saves natural resources
•  Reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Waste separation is a simple action with a large environmental impact.

But the success of this system depends on all of us.

By taking just a few seconds to choose the correct bin, we contribute to a cleaner campus, a healthier community, and a more sustainable future.

This waste-selection initiative is only the first step.

It is part of a broader plan to make IBU a leading Green University in the region — a university that not only teaches sustainability, but lives it through action, example, and daily practice.

Our objectives for this initiative are clear:

  1. Reduce mixed waste across campus by introducing a functional and user-friendly selection system.
  2. Increase recycling rates of paper, plastic bottles, and cans.
  3. Educate and engage our academic community in responsible waste habits.
  4. Build a long-term culture of sustainability that continues to grow with each generation of students.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Each bottle recycled, each stack of paper properly disposed of, each responsible action — they all add up.

Small steps, when multiplied by hundreds of people, become powerful change.

Let us take this step together.

Let us choose the correct bin, support the environment, and inspire each other to do more.

Let us make International Balkan University not just a place of learning, but a model of sustainable action and environmental respect.

IBU Goes Green — a clean campus, responsible choices, and a brighter future.
